Climb Pikey (Peekay) Peak,

visit Chiwang, Thubtencholing and  Trakshindo monasteries,

trek in the lower Solu-Khumbu, rewarding Nepal walking holidays

Trekking in the lower Solu-Khumbu, the heart of the land of the Sherpas, brings you the magnificent views of the high peaks in the region, but above all the immersion into the traditional Sherpa culture. If you want to learn about their lifestyle, architecture, their foremost monasteries and their way of life, you need to spend time in Solu, the lower of Solukhumbu, the two Sherpa regions.

Trekking in the Solukumbu Region is spectacular in every sense of the word when it comes to the panoramas of high peaks. But while most come in search of the landscapes above timberline, trekking in the elevations where the landscape is rich in fine forests, ancient monasteries and still offers spectacular mountain views as the southern part of the Everest region does, the experience of Sherpa region of the Himalaya becomes complete. Authentic Sherpa culture, secluded impressive monasteries and villages inhabited by the friendly Sherpas make Solu a perfect destination for families and those seeking less strenuous trekking itinerary with much fewer tourists than Khumbu.

The name of Pikey stems from a name of a Sherpa clan deity, Chyabo Pikey. The trek can be done May to July and October to early December, though in July it may be best as you'll have a chance to partake in festivities in connection with the worship of Chyabo Pikey. There are two trekking highlights to this trek: summiting Pikey Peak (4070m) and later ascending to Dhud Kund

(5400m). It is not so much that the trek is extremely difficult but the rewarding panoramas of the High Himalayas it offers.
