Cross Ganja La (5200m), climb Tsergo Ri (5180m), visit holy lakes of Gosainkunda (4350m) and fine Sherpa villages of Tarke Gyang & Sermathang in scenic Helambu

Langtang Himal is the third most popular trekking region in Nepal after Annapurna and Solukhumbu. On account of the close proximity to Kathmandu Valley it is easily accessible by road to Trisuli Bazaar if trekking up the Langtang Valley, or via the Kodari road if trekking up the Helambu Valley.

In its western parts Langtang Himal was settled by Tamangs who are the principal population group further west in Ganesh Himal.

Tamangs were Tibetan traders who came south of the High Himalaya some 300 hundred years ago from Tibet proper immediately to the north, hence culturally the local lore and ritual closely resemble that of Tibet.

Helambu area, extending north from Taramarang to the tree line of the Gosaikunda Lekh and lower Jugal Himal, is populated by Sherpas whose villages on both sides of the Melemchi Khola are the most westerly of their principal settlement area of Solukhumbu.

Langtang Himal includes some of the most spectacular peaks in the entire Himalaya. The highest peak of Langtang Himal is Shisha Pangma (8013m) but it lies on the Tibetan side of the range. The highest peak on the Nepalese side is Langtang Lirung (7245m, aka Ganchhen Ledrup), which along with Tsangbu Ri (6745m) and Dragpoche Ri (6543m) is part of the Langtang border ridge.

Trekking over the Ganja La (5200m) we can offer you an opportunity to summit handful of fine peaks in the vicinity, namely Tsergo Ri (5180m), Yala Peak (5400m),  and Kyangjin Ri (5600m), however for the  later two crampons and ice-axe are necessary.

There are two princupal treks in Langtang Himal: Langtang Valley over Ganja La to Helambu, and Langtang Valley over Gosainkunda to Helambu. Additionally each, Langtang Valley and Helambu Valley, offer treks without ascending to high elevations and traversing any difficult passes, thus constitute suitable family treks with children.

Ganja La does not become passable until May, best season is the fall, October to early December. In general Langtang is at its best in the early spring and fall, lower elevations can be visited year round.
